TRIVIA:

Devon's great-grandfather came from County Argyll in Scotland.

This episode contains an in-joke of sorts. The bank robbed at the start of the story is the Bank of R. Gilmer. Robert W. Gilmer is the writer and co-producer of this episode. He also refers to it in a note that accompanies the script for the later episode MOUTH OF THE SNAKE.

At the Foundation Christmas Banquet, Devon intends to sit Michael between Lady Pinwall and the Duchess of Chipstead.

Janet DeMay was a regular on Remington Steele, which aired directly after Knight Rider on NBC during its first season.

SCRIPT TO SCREEN:

Tino was originally envisaged as a scruffy 14-year-old -- the episode describes him as "15-16." He's presented much more sympathetically in the script, visiting his dead father in the funeral parlor and promising to make some money (the reason he steals the gold watch) and to take care of his sister.

The script calls for much more of the Christmas spirit. One scene has Michael listening to Christmas carols, another calls hopefully for decorations along the street.

Stephano was much more benevolent to begin with. In the first draft the Banducci brothers make off with Tino because the gypsies were afraid of their guns; in the episode Stephano gives up his nephew for money.

K.I.T.T. started to read fortunes in the early drafts.
